María Isabel Cortez

Main Researcher of the project PIA ANID Anillo SOC180025 “Female mathematicians in Chile. Sociology of a scientific field from a gender perspective”
Dr. Cortez obtained her Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Burgundy, France (2005) in joint supervision with the University of Chile. She held a postdoctoral position at the Center for Mathematical Modeling of the University of Chile from January to June 2006. She had an academic position at the University of Santiago de Chile until July 2020. She is currently an associate professor at the Faculty of Mathematics of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. In mathematics, her research focuses on Dynamical Systems and Group Theory. Since 2019, she has been a member of the interdisciplinary research group “Anillo Gender and Mathematics”. The main objective of this project is to know, understand and analyze the scientific field of women in mathematics in Chile, from a gender perspective, articulating the research method in social sciences with the knowledge of mathematical language.
