Susan Perkins

Susan Perkins rejoined New York University, Stern School of Business as a Visiting Associate Professor of Strategic Management in 2021. She is an Associate Professor of Strategic Management at the University of Illinois – Chicago (UIC) where she has previously taught the core Business Strategy and Global Strategy courses in the full-time, part-time, and corporate MBA programs and was voted the “Best MBA Professor” by the Corporate MBA Class of 2019 at UIC Business. Prior to joining UIC, Professor Perkins was on faculty at Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management for over a decade in the Management and Organizations department and taught in the Executive MBA and MBA-core International Business and Markets Program. While at Kellogg, Professor Perkins created and led an international experiential learning course in Latin America (International Business Strategy Lab). She was a two time visiting scholar at MIT - Sloan School of Management in the Organizational Studies (2011–13) and Global Economics and Management (2015 – 2017) departments on the executive education faculty in the Global Organizations lab. Professor Perkins also teaches internationally in the top-ranked MBA Strategy Specialization program at HEC-Paris in France. Professor Perkins first started teaching International Business Management in 2004 at New York University, Stern School of Business in the undergraduate program. She was most recently recognized as a “Hall of Fame Professor” by the Initiative for A Competitive Inner City (ICIC) in 2019 for her excellence in executive education teaching Strategic Management to over 3,000 entrepreneurs. Her research focuses on corporate governance, ownership, and capital markets throughout Latin America and gender differences in leadership that effect how strategic decisions shape organizations and societal-level outcomes. Her research has been published in journals including the Harvard Business Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Global Strategy Journal and the Journal of International Affairs, and has been featured in The Financial Times, Washington Post, CNBC, and Fortune, among others. Professor Perkins received her BBA with honors from Howard University, School of Business in Marketing.
