Sterling Memorial Library Lecture Hall
128 Wall St, New Haven CT, 06511

This lecture will introduce a unique cultural content of Korea: the flower ritual of burial for fallen flowers. It highlights a special ceremony held to console the sorrowful death of camellia flowers, which are over 500 years old and naturally grow within the grounds of Seonunsa Temple when they fall. The content is presented by comparing the poetry of Seo Jeong-ju, one of Korea's representative poets, with the lyrics of BTS, the leading group in the Korean Wave. The lecture emphasizes that the Korean Wave, which has a significant impact on the world today, is not merely about economic competitiveness but also about cultural content that stems from the unique energy of a people, derived from a fusion of history, philosophy, culture, and art.

Lunch will be served.
