Film Description

Bong Joon Ho's Mother is a gripping South Korean neo-noir thriller that delves into the extremes of maternal love and the pursuit of justice. The story follows a devoted mother, played by Kim Hye-ja, who embarks on a relentless quest to prove the innocence of her son with intellectual disables after he is accused of a young girl's murder. As she navigates a corrupt and indifferent legal system, her investigation uncovers unsettling truths, forcing her to confront the lengths to which she will go to protect him.

2009 | Directed by Bong Joon Ho | South Korea | 129 minutes | Korean with English subtitles

Series sponsored by Yale Council on East Asian Studies, Yale Film Society, Whitney Humanities Center, Yale School of Art, and Yale Film and Media Studies
