Julia Peng

Jiaqi (Julia) Peng was born and raised in Beijing. She graduated from Vassar College with a major in Media Studies and a minor in Sociology. She was a member of Portrait, a magazine publication by and for Asian-identifying students at Vassar, as well as Big K!dz, a sketch comedy group. Her academic interest revolves around Chinese state-society relations, but she is also curious about comparative studies on governance and civil society in East Asian regions. After she took a seminar titled Memory Work in her last undergraduate semester, she is now also interested in diving deeper into the field of Memory Studies, specifically topics like the politics of memory and narrative. During her free time, she loves wandering and biking around. At home, she enjoys watching movies, TV series, and documentaries and not getting over the good ones.
