Nikhitha Mary Mathew
Nikita is a doctoral candidate at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. Her research focuses on the intersections of education policy and social inequality in the context of developing countries. She studies various aspects of this intersection, including how education policies could unintentionally reinforce social inequalities as well as their potential in alleviating the same. The latter includes the role of education in redistributing opportunities and shaping social ideologies. Her broader research agenda is to enhance policy-makers’ understanding of the need to design education policies with the intention to foster greater social equity. She holds a BA (Hons) in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, India, and a Master's in Economics and Public Policy from SciencesPo, Paris. She has also worked at the International Institute for Education Planning (IIEP)-UNESCO, Paris, where she conducted impact evaluations of education programs implemented by IIEP in Western Africa. Prior to joining the PhD program, she was enrolled in a pre-doctoral research fellowship at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
