Aníbal Guerrero Aguilar

Aníbal Guerrero is a Chilean economist from Universidad de Chile, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in economic analysis.

 

Between 2018 and 2022, Aníbal worked as an advisor to the Undersecretary of Higher Education, particularly in endeavors related to higher education financing. In addition, he secured a public-private alliance that allowed for the implementation of a warning system that alerted students via email and text messages about errors on their applications to higher education. Anibal also worked in the Chilean government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically in the government’s strategic alliance with Google to ensure the continuity of students’ learning activities. In 2021, he designed and developed an alert system that informed institutions about their students’ vaccination rates that allowed for a safe return to in-person classes.

 

In 2022, Aníbal became a research manager at the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) where he managed the largest portfolio in the Latin American branch. The projects were at the intersection of education and technology, specifically analyzing how the latter can improve educational outcomes and diminish drop-out rates in a cost-effective manner. These projects were implemented in Chile, Colombia and the Dominican Republic, where he worked securing agreements with local governments to implement and evaluate these projects. In this position, Anibal also gained experience in fundraising and grant management.
