Ivan Mangal
Ivan is a sophomore in Pauli Murray college studying the history of science, medicine, and public health. His interests lie in the institutional arrangements that perpetuate health inequities for Black and Indigenous populations in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean. He is particularly interested in how community organizers integrate health care justice into their platforms. As a person of mixed Afro-Puerto Rican, Guyanese, and Danish heritage, who grew up between the United States and Southeast Asia, Ivan is also curious about exploring his interests through multiple lenses. He is currently enrolled in a seminar at the Yale University Art Gallery that applies visual thinking strategies in art to analyze social movements. Outside of class, he is a Peer Liaison for La Casa Cultural, plays piano with La Orquesta Tertulia, and on the board of Despierta Boricua.
