Ivana Ñique
Ivana is a first-gen student originally from Connecticut and of Peruvian descent. She is most drawn to Latin American Studies to understand the role of state and political violence particularly in the 20th century in South America and the current state of gender-based violence in Latin America. She is also interested in the history of evolving U.S. policy toward Latin America and the consequences that remain today. Ivana studied abroad one summer in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she studied human rights and Latin American literature. Last summer, she spent her time with a local organization in New Haven as an organizer advocating for the rights of immigrants and workers in Connecticut. On campus, Ivana is involved with Latina Women at Yale, the Yale Undergraduate Legal Aid Association and has worked as legal interpreter on numerous occasions. In her free time, Ivana enjoy watching films, making pottery and reading!
