Julian Barrera
Julian is a senior majoring in Environmental Studies, originally from Roma, TX, and Miguel Alemán, Mexico. He is passionate about sustainable innovation and the environmental humanities, with a commitment to exploring how the stories of people in Latin America—their successes, struggles, resilience, and daily lives—can guide the design of a more sustainable future. Julian is particularly concerned with issues like the devastating consequences of fast fashion on communities near Chile's Atacama Desert and the ecosystem fragmentation caused by the Tren Maya in the Yucatan Peninsula. He is dedicated to using his academic background, emerging filmmaking skills, and personal experiences to advocate for sustainable practices that honor both people and the planet.
Julian is also the co-founder and president of Yalies Fronterizos, a member of the Zero-Waste Team in the Office of Sustainability, and a First-Year Counselor in Timothy Dwight College.
