Karela Palazio
Karela Palazio was born in Managua, Nicaragua and grew up in Miami, Florida. She double majors in Religious Studies and Art, and studies graphic arts as tools of liberation in Central America. She is interested in the role of religion during Latin American revolutionary movements, specifically through martyrdom and symbolism. She is currently researching the liberation theology movement in tandem with the Sandinista Revolution, and the role that art played in that junction. In her art practice, she works in sculpture and graphic design. After spending the summer in Managua apprenticing a metal artist, she has questions about how an artist in Latin America is conceived.
