Sokeyra Francisco
Sokeyra (so-kay-ra) Francisco is in the combined History and African American Studies program at Yale University. She is researching enslavement and freedom in the Caribbean with a focus on the island of Hispaniola/Ayiti in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. She is interested in how African and African descended people on the island enacted freedom and the registers that they chose to/could do so. At Yale she is a Teaching Fellow and has run the Latin American History Speaker Series with the Center for Latin American and Iberian Studies and the Latin American History Working Group. She earned a BA in History and Peace and Conflict Studies from Swarthmore College.
