Sunil Amrith Awarded Heineken Prize For His Work in Environmental History
The SASC is excited to announce that Professor Sunil Amrith, Renu and Anand Dhawan Professor of History and Chair of the South Asian Studies Council, will be receiving the 2022 Dr. A.H. Heineken Prize for History in a live-streamed event on Thursday, September 29th starting at 11:30 AM EDT. Tune in at heinekenprizes.org to watch!
The award honors Professor Amrith’s “search for the historical origins of the great inequality that exists between and within countries as well as the connection that he has identified to the impact of climate change” and comes on the heels of the publication of his pioneering book Unruly Waters in 2018.
The award ceremony will be held in Amsterdam at the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ. Professor Amrith is lecturing and traveling in the Netherlands this week as part of the award honors.
