Programs in International Educational Resources (PIER)

PIER-African Studies, the African Studies Outreach Program at Yale University, was established in 1985 when the Council on African Studies was first funded as a United States Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center.

Its programming focuses on expanding and enhancing knowledge of Africa in schools, colleges, universities, civic groups, business and the media.

PIER-African Studies offers teacher training workshops and resource services, enrichment programs in schools and civic groups, and a two-week intensive summer course in African studies aimed at college faculty, K-12 teachers, librarians, administrators, curriculum specialists, and members of the business and media communities.

Other services include consultation with schools and businesses, speakers bureau, language training, and educational visits to Africa.
