Second half offered in Paraty, Brazil. This class will provide a rigorous and fast-paced introduction to the Portuguese language. Students will learn major grammatical structures while building oral fluency, listening comprehension, accurate pronunciation, and reading and writing skills. This class will also introduce students to a variety of literary, cultural and historical topics from Brazil. This is an intensive class, which is the equivalent of a full first-year course in Portuguese.This course prepares for Portuguese 130 (Intermediate). Port. 118 also fulfills the language requirement in Portuguese for the B.A. in Latin American Studies.

An intensive intermediate course in Portuguese language emphasizing development of all skills with an introduction to Brazilian cultural topics reflecting the history and geography of the area. Introduction to Brazilian Literature and Culture (PORT S-209) GROUP I
Second half offered in Paraty, Brazil. Reading, discussion, and interpretation of selected fiction, poetry, essays, and journalism by major authors and figures in Brazilian intellectual and cultural history. This course is designed to complement topics in the intermediate language course. For college students 18 years or older. Application deadline: April 1. Must be taken in conjunction with PORT S-130. Students who have already taken PORT 130 during the academic year may take this course alone on a space-available basis. Field Course in Primate Ecology and Behavior

ANTH S-263 30020 GROUP IV SOOffered in Panama. A study of the evolutionary biology and behavior of primates, focusing on the techniques of field observation and data collection in a tropical environment. Behavioral sampling, habitat measures, and statistical analyses are used to teach effective hypothesis development, testing, and report writing and presentation. Evaluation of the behavior of primates, our closest relatives, in the wild in order to gain insight into behavioral ecology, adaptation, and evolution. Students are responsible for all travel expenses to and from Panama, costs of room and board, and all other expenses beyond tuition. Application deadline: April 3. Enrollment limited.
