Tryx Grant
Tryx Grant is a Film and Media Studies major who is interested in the French New Wave (La Nouvelle Vague) and its enduring influence on contemporary world cinema, particularly its challenge to narrative conventions, authorship, and the politics of representation. Postwar French aesthetics reshaped ideas of cinematic realism and spectatorship, and those innovations continue to inform global filmmaking today. Tryx situates the New Wave within broader questions of European modernity, decolonization, and cultural circulation. Their research considers how the movement’s techniques, including handheld camerawork, improvisation, and self-reflexive narratives, reflect shifting notions of identity and authorship in world cinema.
