The Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies, which hosts the European Studies Council and the Russian, East European and Eurasian Program, is the University’s focal point for promoting teaching and research on all aspects of international affairs, societies, and cultures around the world.

Baltic Studies Program

The Yale Baltic Studies Program is an interdisciplinary forum for the study of the Baltic Sea region, with an emphasis on the lands that comprise contemporary Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The program sponsors symposia, and lectures and serves as a resource for and liaison among students and scholars whose work involves the Baltic region.

Central Asia Initiative

The Central Asia Initiative’s mission is to promote a deeper understanding of Central Asia and its relations with neighboring regions and the wider world. We strive to advance knowledge and scholarship on the region’s history, politics, culture, and economy, and to engage with diverse audiences to foster mutual understanding and collaboration.

The Program of Hellenic Studies offers a comprehensive program of instruction in the modern Greek language and cooperates closely with the Center for Language Study at Yale University for the development of technology-based teaching aids for the acquisition and mastering of modern Greek and the enrichment of other Hellenic oriented courses. Courses are offered in modern Greek literature and culture and in collaboration with other departments.

The Jackson School for Global Affairs

The Jackson Institute for Global Affairs offers interdisciplinary academic programs that inspire and prepare Yale students for global leadership and service. In addition to degree programs in Global Affairs, Jackson is home to the Global Health Studies Multidisciplinary Academic Program (MAP), the Maurice R. Greenberg World Fellows Program, the Johnson Center for the Study of American Diplomacy, and the Kerry Initiative.

Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies Northeast Network

Launched in December 2020, the Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies Northeast Network (REEESNe) comprises institutions and individuals along the Northeast corridor and neighboring areas. REEESNe facilitates information sharing and collaboration in order to advance teaching and learning about the REEES area, with a primary focus on the undergraduate and master’s levels.
