Prafulla Martin-Garg

Executive MPH (Class of 2027)

A practicing pediatrician and a public health physician in rural upstate Utah, Dr Martin-Garg has enjoyed taking care of families, with an emphasis on preventive care, mental health of teens, and promoting the health of diverse and marginalized persons. Trained in India, she uses her cross cultural experience to relate to persons from various communities, provide equitable healthcare, while identifying with their cultural beliefs especially with child rearing and approach to modern medicine. 

Since taking on the additional responsibility as Medical Director of public health physician 4 years ago, she has coordinated with law enforcement to treat substance abuse and mental health in jails, and those with unstable housing. A thriving STI treatment center, the Health department offers equitable care to the LGBTQ community, partner treatment and PrEP services.

Since accepting several refugee families from Syria and Iraq, she takes care of the health and wellbeing of immigrant and refugee communities. Her team attempts to provide comprehensive healthcare, co-ordinating with housing services, workforce services and social work.

On a global scale, her interest is in vaccine equity for children the world over, and prevention and treatment of HIV, tuberculosis and malaria.
