Fugitive Modernities: The Politics of Freedom from Africa to the Americas

A talk with Jessica A. Krug, author of “Fugitive Modernities” and Vincent Brown, uthor of “The Reaper’s Garden” and the forthcoming “Tacky’s Revolt: The Story of an Atlantic Slave War.”
Krug and Brown will discuss Krug’s new book, a finalist for the 2019 GLC Fredrick Douglas Prize and the Lapidus Center’s 2019 Harriet Tubman Prize.
The authors will discuss memory, power, and resistance during the Atlantic human trade, historians’ challenges in recreating these political worlds, and implications of these struggles for the present day.
