Summer Semester 2026

Architects of Democracy: Black Intellectuals & America's 250th

APPLICATION DUE MONDAY, JUNE 8TH

Join a paid Summer 2026 opportunity exploring the Black voices that shaped and challenged the American Revolution. We are seeking four K–12 teachers in Social Studies, ELA, or Elementary Education to participate in virtual meetings throughout the summer and collaborate on creating an original lesson plan to be shared with our broader educational community. Participants will receive a $600 stipend for their work.

The history of the American Revolution is incomplete without the Black voices that challenged its limits. This project offers educators the chance to engage with Black revolutionary authors, deepen inclusive historical understanding, and develop meaningful classroom resources alongside fellow teachers.

If you have any questions about the program, please email Daisha Brabham (daisha.brabham@yale.edu). If you have questions about the application form, please email Tamara Michel (tamara.michel@yale.edu).

We look forward to receiving your applications!

Museum & Lunch: Summer Get Together

Friday, June 26, 2026 | 10:30 am - 1:30 pm

The Amistad Center for Art & Culture at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art
600 Main Street, Hartford CT, 06103

Kick off summer break with a GLC summer get together. Join us for an informal visit to Amistad Culture to explore Wendel A. White’s new exhibit, Manifest | Thirteen Colonies. This powerful collection is the culmination of White's multiyear project documenting African American material culture found within the archives of the original thirteen colonies. From significant artifacts like Frederick Douglass’s hair and Malcolm X’s tape recorder to everyday items like a hair straightening comb, the exhibit serves as a personal reliquary of Black agency and history. After a self-guided tour of the gallery, we’ll head to a local spot for lunch and an informal conversation about the work. Lunch will be provided!

Participation Requirements:

This field trip is exclusively for K–12 teachers. Due to limited capacity, registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and should plan to meet at the museum. Those selected to attend will receive a confirmation email with additional information closer to the trip date.

A Crafty Evening with Tangular Irby: Gee's Bend Quilting History

Wednessay, August 12, 2026 | 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Possible Futures Bookstore
318 Edgewood Avenue, New Haven CT, 06511

This community event offers a unique look at how "stitched stories" function as both a vibrant art form and a living record of history. This event is open to all who wish to attend.

BOOK GIVEAWAY: The first 20 attendees who register will receive a free copy of Tangular Irby's book!

Please note: the complimentary book giveaway is strictly limited to the first 20 registrants. To receive the book, these 20 eligible registrants must attend the live, in-person session.
