David Eltis is Robert W. Woodruff Professor of History, Emory University. His research interests are the early modern Atlantic World, slavery, and migration - both coerced and free. He is the author of Economic Growth and The Ending of the Transatlantic Slave Trade and The Rise of African Slavery in the Americas. Professor Eltis is the principle investigator for the Voyages Database, a Trans- Atlantic Slave Trade Database that comprises nearly 35,000 individual slaving expeditions between 1514 and 1866 throughout the globe.
