The GLC Welcomes Daisha Brabham as Director of Education and Public Outreach

The Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at the MacMillan Center at Yale is thrilled to announce the hire of Daisha Brabham as GLC Director of Education and Public Outreach. Please join us in welcoming Ms. Brabham to the GLC team and to Yale! She starts on July 1, 2023 and will work with outgoing Education and Outreach director Tom Thurston for a month as she transitions into this role. We look forward with great excitement to her leadership and to sharing her ideas, experience, and energy with the GLC community, on and off campus.

Ms. Brabham is a public historian, curriculum writer, and teacher educator. She holds a B.S. in Secondary Education from Southern Connecticut State University and an MA in Public History from the Royal Holloway University of London, where she researched transnational black resistance movements and black feminist print culture. Prior to joining the Gilder Lehrman Center, she worked as a high school social studies teacher and teacher educator. In 2019, she was awarded a Fulbright to receive her MA in Public History at Royal Holloway University, where she was already a recipient of the Barzun Prize to expand her play, Homegoing, to sixth formers, giving these students the opportunity to learn about and produce stories about Afro-Diasporic histories. She is also an adjunct faculty member at Southern Connecticut State University and a steering committee member of the Anti-Racist Teaching and Collective. In addition to writing curriculum, she has facilitated several professional development opportunities and served as a panelist for various webinars and conferences to discuss anti-racist, culturally relevant pedagogy.
