The book is an autoethnographic collection featuring 14 refugee scholars from diverse academic and national backgrounds, each sharing their experiences navigating the tensions between humanitarianism and the Western academic establishment.

Sayed Hassan Akhlaq serves as a professor of philosophy at both Coppin State University and Marymount University, with a scholarly focus on interdisciplinary inquiry, comparative studies, and diaspora philosophy.

Dr. Alfred Babo is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Director of the International Studies Program at Fairfield University, where his research focus on refugees’ activism in Africa and acculturation in the US.
