Yin Yin Win

Yin Yin Win was a Professor of Law at the University of Yangon, Myanmar, and she served as a civil service, educator, and legal advisor for more than 20 years in Myanmar. Because of her work as a legal advisor of the Universities in Yangon Region's Civil Disobedience Movement Support Network, a warrant was publicly issued against her in Myanmar on March 8, 2021. She applied for refugee status in the United States and arrived in New York City in July 2021. Brooklyn Law School supported her to be a visiting scholar in Brooklyn Law School for the 2021-2022 academic year. Then, she moved to Notre Dame as she received a scholarship from Notre Dame Law School in 2022. She achieved a Ph.D. from the University of Yangon, Myanmar, a Master of Laws from Niigata University, Japan, and a Master of International Human Rights Law from Notre Dame Law School, United States. She has engaged in community teaching and community development programs for environmental conservation and women's rights in Myanmar. The Asian Society of International (AsianSIL) elected her as an executive board member from 2019-2022. She is an associate research scholar with the Council on Southeast Asia Studies at Yale MacMillan Center, sponsored jointly by the Foundation to Promote Open Society (“FPOS”) and the Institute of International Education (IIE). In 2023, Women Graduates–USA selected her as a WG-USA Fellow. She keeps her interest in research works to protect human rights and IP rights and contribute to conserving the natural environment in Myanmar.
