Dr. Amani Rogers

2026 Yale & Slavery Teachers Institute Cohort Member

Amani Rogers is a high school mathematics teacher with decades of classroom experience and a deep commitment to advancing equity in mathematics education. She completed a doctorate in Education with a focus on STEM Leadership at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where her academic and professional work centered on expanding access to meaningful mathematics learning opportunities for students who have historically been underrepresented in STEM fields.

Her dissertation, Expanding Horizons Through Representation, is an improvement science study that examined the impact of Black women’s belonging stories on Black girls’ attitudes toward STEM. Through this research, she explored how exposure to narratives from Black female STEM professionals—stories that centered struggle rather than exceptionalism—influenced students’ perceptions of belonging, identity, and possibility within mathematics and related fields.

She continues bridging research and practice through her classroom teaching and professional work. She remains passionate about mathematics education, supporting the success of underrepresented students in STEM, and developing instructional approaches that challenge systemic inequities and expand opportunities for all learners.
