My name is Amber Harrison and I am currently a third grade teacher for Region 16 Public Schools. I am committed to creating a classroom enviroment where all students have equal opportunities to learn. With a strong passion for American history, I believe it is important to introduce students to the foundations of our country at an early age. Understanding our nation’s history, helps students think critically about how the past continues to shape our present. In my classroom, I want students to become comfortable engaging in thoughtful conversations, even when topics may feel uncomfortable. I believe these early discussions help students build empathy skills for others. My goal as an educator is to create lessons that connect history to students’ daily lives while helping them learn from the past so that its mistakes are not repeated. Through collaboration and professional learning, I hope to deepen my ability to teach history in meaningful ways.
