Sebastian Sanders

2026 Yale & Slavery Teachers Institute Cohort Member

My name is Sebastian Sanders. I teach at a public charter high school in Fall River, MA. I am deeply concerned with the way students are removed from their own histories and identities in a society that implores them to be rootless, and I think one of the best ways to understand those origins lies in a reverence for the land they walk on. I am deeply committed to equipping each of my students with a working class lens that challenges what they have been told is the truth and empowers them in creating their own. I do this by developing critical curricula that focuses on stories, love, and solidarity and I am eager to continue doing so through this institute, emulating and strengthening methods that our neighbors have employed for thousands of years.
