Stephanie Sperber

2026 Yale & Slavery Teachers Institute Cohort Member

Steph is a passionate and dynamic educator whose teaching blends intellectual rigor with authentic engagement. She teaches AP US History, AP American Government, Global Problem Solvers, and We the People courses to 10th-12th graders. Known for designing immersive simulations, interdisciplinary units, and inquiry-driven discussions, she challenges students to think critically about history, global issues, and the ethical dilemmas that shape our world. Her classroom is a space where empathy meets analysis; where students not only interpret events, but also inhabit them, whether as UN negotiators, historical figures, refugee advocates, wartime journalists, or propaganda artists. Steph’s work emphasizes historical complexity, social justice, and student agency, often drawing on real-world connections and experiential learning to deepen understanding. She teaches at Kingswood Oxford School, a vibrant independent school in West Hartford, Connecticut, where curiosity, creativity, and character are central to the learning experience.
