Rawia Tawfik is a Visiting Associate Professor at the Macmillan Centre for International and Area Studies and an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Politics from the University of Oxford. She was a researcher at the German Development Institute (now the German Institute of Development and Sustainability), the think tank of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. She published extensively on resource-based conflicts, especially in the Nile Basin, Africa's regional integration, Egypt's Africa policy, and the role of  Middle Eastern powers in Africa in renowned journals including: African Studies, African Studies Review, International Negotiation, Water Policy, and Water International.
