Each fall, the Fox family graciously opens their Connecticut home to welcome the incoming Fox International Fellows and their families for a special Thanksgiving luncheon. This annual gathering is a highlight of the fellowship year, offering a unique opportunity to reflect on the core values of gratitude, cultural exchange, and global connection.

This year’s luncheon was a heartwarming occasion, where 22 Fellows from 18 countries came together to share in the spirit of fellowship and thanksgiving. The day began with a peaceful walk by the serene lake near the Fox home, where the Fox family members shared their insights about the significance of the Fox International Fellowship. They highlighted its role in promoting global understanding, fostering lasting connections, and building bridges between cultures—a perfect introduction to the theme of gratitude that would unfold throughout the day.

The gathering officially kicked off with a thoughtful message from Allison Fox, widow of the late Mr. Joseph Carrère Fox (Yale Class of '38 & Founder of the Fox International Fellowship), and his children—Dell, Lee, and Henry Fox. They spoke movingly about the tradition of Thanksgiving and its universal themes of community and appreciation for the abundance of the earth. Their reflections on harvest festivals across different cultures enriched the Fellows' understanding of how Thanksgiving, while deeply rooted in American culture, carries shared values of gratitude and togetherness that resonate worldwide.

After the inspiring reflections, it was time for the highlight of the day—the traditional Thanksgiving feast. The Fox family went all out with a magnificent spread that included golden-brown turkey, creamy corn pudding, tangy cranberry sauce, apple crisp, and classic pumpkin pie. For many Fellows, this was their first experience of an authentic American Thanksgiving, and it became a wonderful occasion to bond over delicious food and lively conversation.

Laughter filled the room as Fellows exchanged stories from their home countries, shared what they were grateful for in their individual journeys, and reflected on the enriching experience of being part of the Fox International Fellowship. The gathering was a powerful reminder of what the fellowship stands for: not just academic growth, but the creation of meaningful, lifelong connections that transcend borders and cultures.

The afternoon was more than just a meal—it was a celebration of the strong sense of community that the Fox Fellowship fosters. Fellows from diverse backgrounds came together to connect on a deeper level, sharing their personal experiences, academic challenges, and moments of joy. This shared experience of fellowship is what makes the Fox International Fellowship truly special.

As we left the gathering, our hearts and bellies were full, and we carried with us lasting memories of the generosity and warmth of the Fox family. The Fox Thanksgiving luncheon was a beautiful reminder of the bonds we form through this fellowship, bonds that last far beyond a single year of study. It was a day that will stay in our hearts for years to come.
