Tobias Zimmermann
Tobias Zimmermann is a Ph.D. candidate at Freie Universität Berlin in the Doctoral Program in Business Research. His dissertation addresses the societal challenge of decarbonizing economic activities in ways that are "just transitions" for everyone affected by the transformations. The ongoing transition toward electric vehicles in the automotive industry is his pivotal research case. He analyzes the restructuring strategies of governments, employers, and unions in transatlantic comparison and asks about the labor effects and auto workers' quest for a "just transition". Tobias is a teaching fellow at Freie Universität Berlin's School of Business & Economics and he has visited Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations to conduct initial fieldwork in the US auto industry. Before starting the Ph.D. program, Tobias worked as a manager in an international advisory company’s public sector consulting practice in Berlin where he was an appointed fellow in the Emerging Leader Program. Previously, he has also worked as a research assistant in the Workgroup for Economic and Infrastructure Policy at Technische Universität Berlin. He holds M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Economics from the University of Münster and he has completed the International Business Certificate Program during a semester abroad at San Diego State University.
