O'Brien to speak on Extremism, April 10.

Luke O’Brien, author of “The Making of An American Nazi,” will deliver the first Charles E. Scheidt Family fund lecture of the year.  His talk is entitled   ”Extremism in the USA: who are America’s extremists, what do they want, and what are their strategies?”
 
The lecture will take place on Tuesday, 4/10, at 4:30 in LC 101, and is open to the public.
 
 
 
Luke O’Brien Bio:
 
Luke O’Brien is the author of the recent Atlantic piece titled  “The Making of an American Nazi” ( in the Dec. 2017 issue). The article is a harrowing description of how a not-all-that-atypical suburban kid ends up becoming a far-right leader.  O’Brien has studied and written about extremism in America for several years, including the unmasking of a prominent neo-nazi “troll,” Rickey Vaughn (who is actually named Douglass Mackey). 
 
His work has also appeared in FortuneDetailsRolling StoneFast CompanyThe New York TimesBoston MagazineThe Washington Post Magazine and Slate, among other publications. Luke wrote the first investigative magazine piece on the controversial founding of Facebook, has published notable magazine profiles of Tina Brown and Mike Bloomberg and has covered three World Cups.
