Audio and Video
The Genocide Studies Program is committed to collecting, preserving, and making available audio and visual resources pertaining to genocides throughout the world. As the GSP explored in two year-long seminar series in 2011-12 and 2012-13, audio and visual resources are a rich source of information about genocide. Yale University’s Fortunoff Video Archive for Holocaust Testimonies, the world’s first extensive collection of long-form interviews with Holocaust survivors, has, since its inception in 1983, demonstrated the power of witnesses to genocide in their own words, voice, and gestures. The GSP builds upon that archive with a growing effort to support the audio and visual documentation of genocide in several locales.
