Hellenic Studies Program Participates in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s NOSTOS Conference

From June 21–28, 2026, the Hellenic Studies Program participated in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s NOSTOS Conference in Athens, Greece, a week-long celebration marking thirty years of the Foundation’s global philanthropic impact. The conference featured a dynamic program of panel discussions, lectures, and cultural events.

Maria Kaliambou represented Yale’s Hellenic Studies Program in the panel discussion “Why Does Hellenic Studies Matter for All of Us?” joining distinguished colleagues from universities in the United States, Canada, and Europe, as well as the Secretary General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy at the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The panel explored the enduring relevance of Hellenic Studies and the many ways academic programs foster the study of Greek language, history, and culture while engaging new generations of students around the world. The recording of the panel is available; the Hellenic Studies Program’s presentation begins at approximately the 24-minute mark.

During a special celebration honoring the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and its global network of grantees, Yale’s Hellenic Studies Program was recognized on the occasion of its twenty-fifth anniversary. The celebration marked a meaningful milestone in the longstanding partnership between the Foundation and the Program.

The Hellenic Studies Program extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation for twenty-five years of visionary support, which has enabled the Program to flourish as a vibrant center for the study of Greek language, history, and culture at Yale.
