Brais Lamela Gómez
Brais Lamela is a PhD candidate in the Departments of Spanish & Portuguese and Early
Modern Studies at Yale University. He is from Galicia, Spain, and holds a Bachelor’s degree
summa cum laude in Comparative Literature from Brown University and an M.Phil from the
University of Cambridge, where he was a Santander Bank Scholar. He works comparatively
across the Early Modern Andes and the Iberian Peninsula and is interested in questions of law
and aesthetics, translation, and new approaches to the colonial archive. An article from his research is forthcoming with the Colonial Latin American Review.
Brais Lamela is also a fiction writer in the Galician language. His debut novel, Ninguén queda (Euseino, 2022), was awarded the Narrative Critics Award in Spain and has been translated into four languages.
