Darren Paredes
Darren Paredes is a first-year student in Silliman College. Growing up in New Mexico, Darren was exposed to the rich and distinct history of twenty-one indigenous groups, Nuevo Mexicanos—Spanish speakers that have settled in the area since before British settlement along the west coast—and American relations.
Adding to his comparative experience, Darren is an alum of the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange program: a year-long academic and cultural exchange between young American and Germans overseen by the Department of State.
Darren hopes to continue to compare cultures—especially Spanish speaking cultures—through explicating larger trends in Spanish literary works. Specifically, earning a B.A in Comparative Literature with a focus on Latin-American authors. Furthermore, he hopes to double-major in the Ethics, Politics, and Economic program .
Outside of class, Darren is a student coordinator at La Casa, a barista at the Silliman Acorn, and an ESL teacher for BRIDGES.
