I wouldn’t be Catholic if the Spanish didn’t conquer Ecuador in 1532. I would’ve grown up worshipping the Moon. I wouldn’t have spoken Spanish, I would’ve spoken Kichwa. Once I discovered these simple facts, that I should’ve been taught in school, through my own online research, I was hit by the reality. The true history. It allowed me to connect back to my indigenous roots. I’ve taken on this job of learning the extent of my history, so I could educate other fellow Ecuadorians. I want to teach my aunts that the Incan Ruins, next to their house, was built on top of the Kañari ruins. This isn’t only the case in Ecuador, but many other countries in Latin America. It’s a job of unlearning and rebuilding the true history. Not the one in textbooks. Not the one written by white people.
