Nathalie Miraval

Nathalie Miraval Nathalie Miraval is a joint PhD student in Art History and African American Studies. Her research focuses on the role of enslaved and free Africans in shaping the religious visual cultures of early modern Latin America. She earned her BA in History of Art and Architecture with a secondary in Ethnicity, Migration and Rights from Harvard, where her senior thesis examined the visual conflation of indigenous and Catholic sacred spaces in Mexico, with a specific focus on the open chapel in Actopan, Hidalgo. She presented part of this work at the Frick Collection’s inaugural “Emerging Scholars” symposium in 2016. Prior to Yale, Nathalie served as Public Programming and Outreach Fellow at Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection in Washington, DC, where she designed and implemented the institution’s first educational programs.
