Are there interviews?
Interviews with finalists will be conducted via Zoom.

What should I include in my cover letter?
A good cover letter includes mention of what your dissertation was about, what you plan to do during the year of the fellowship, and how you see yourself complementing or adding to the ongoing work in Southeast Asian Studies at Yale, and in Myanmar/Burma Studies more broadly.

What should I include in my course proposal?
A tentative syllabus and an explanation why you think this course will be interesting to students interested in Southeast Asia. The best proposals will demonstrate how the courses add to, expand upon or add new directions to the topics covered by current CSEAS faculty at Yale.  We are especially interested in courses about Myanmar, or that include at least one-third Myanmar related content. We are open to courses on all time periods and from all academic disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, including environmental studies.

What format should I follow for the requested syllabus? How detailed should it be?
The standard syllabus format is fine. The more detailed, the better. Please note that the selected 2022-2023 CSEAS Postdoctoral Associate will work in close consultation with CSEAS members and other relevant faculty to finalize course syllabi for submission to the Yale College Course of Study Committee.

Am I eligible to apply if I will not have my Ph.D. degree in hand by June 15, 2022?
No.

What is the salary for the position?
The CSEAS postdoctoral salary for 2022-2023 will be $55,000.

What benefits do Postdoctoral Associates receive?
Research allowance (up to $3000), health insurance, library privileges, and office space.  CSEAS offers $1000 in relocation funds, payable via reimbursement with receipts.  Scholars relocating from international locations may be eligible for additional research support based on demonstrated need, such as a receipt for air travel exceeding this amount.

If I am selected, will I be offered or will I be required to sign a publishing contract with Yale Press or CSEAS Monographs?
No.  The CSEAS postdoctoral position is independent of any and all publishing entities at Yale.  Although CSEAS encourages the Postdoctoral Associate to prepare his/her dissertation for publication, Postdoctoral Associates are free to enter publishing contracts for their dissertations and/or other manuscripts with any press.
