Yale’s Council on Latin American and Iberian Studies has established an agreement with the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO) to promote exchange of graduate students for research and study between our two institutions. 

Who should apply?
Yale graduate students best suited for this exchange are those interested in conducting research in Mexico on:1) Government & Politics; 2) Population research; 3) Society, Culture & Innovation.

How is this exchange funded?
Candidates for FLACSO Fellowships are responsible for securing their own funding. For a list of funding opportunities, visit www.studentgrants.yale.edu.

What is FLACSO?
The Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales) (FLACSO) is an international organization created in order to strengthen the study of the social sciences in Latin America and the Caribbean.  It presently has ten programs with campuses in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Guatemala and specialized programs in El Salvador, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.  The program in Mexico is the largest of the ten. 

FLACSO-Mexico
FLACSO-Mexico is located in the southern part of Mexico City and is well known as one of the top research and teaching institutes in the country. All of its 35 full-time research professors hold degrees from top universities in the U.S. and Latin America.   The professors have one of the highest publication rates in the country and are divided into three research areas: 1) Government & Politics, 2) Population research; 3) Society, Culture & Innovation.  FLACSO-Mexico has also recently launched three new graduate programs, in Comparative Public Policy, Education Evaluation & Administration, and the Culture of Legality, designed to train public servants in the most recent advances in these fields.
