Visiting Associate Professor in East Asian Studies

Yoshitaka Yamamoto 山本嘉孝 is Associate Professor at the National Institute of Japanese Literature (NIJL) and at SOKENDAI, the Graduate University for Advanced Studies. He specializes in Edo and Meiji (17th- to 19th-century) Japanese literature and cultural history, with a focus on Literary Sinitic prose and poetry by Japanese-speaking authors and a broader interest in the spread of Sinitic texts and cultural practices across Northeast Asia. He is the author of Shibun to keisei: bakufu jushin no jūhasseiki 詩文と経世:幕府儒臣の十八世紀 (The University of Nagoya Press, 2021).

Visiting Associate Research Scholar in East Asian Studies

Chen Qiufan (a.k.a. Stanley Chan) is an award-winning Chinese speculative fiction author, translator, creative producer, and curator. He is honorary president of the Chinese Science Fiction Writers Association, Culture Leader of World Economic Forum (2018/2019), Asia 21 Society Young Leader (2021), and has a seat on the Xprize  Foundation Science Fiction Advisory Council. His works include the novel Waste Tide and, co-authored with Kai-Fu Lee, the book AI 2041: Ten Visions for Our Future. He currently lives in Shanghai.
