Chen Li did her undergraduate studies at Deep Springs College and Barnard College. She majored in Comparative Literature and wrote her thesis on allegorical readings of Jin Ping Mei Cihua. Her research focuses on modern Chinese literature with interests in historiography, transnationalism, race and ethnicity, rhetoric, psychoanalytic theory, philosophy of language, and the history of science.
