Daize was born in the Shandong Province and raised in Beijing, China. At the age of 11, he immigrated to Canada and lived there until the end of high school. Majoring in both Japanese Studies and Statistics, he received his B.A. from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. His concentration is on modern Japanese literature, especially authors in the Japanese Meiji and Taishō periods. At Yale, his ongoing research interests focus on individual and national subjectivity of the Japanese people before WWII, Japan’s Westernization as a national policy, and its historical colonialist effort in East Asia. Daize seeks to use digital humanity as a methodology to compare the fictive and real world as he tries to build a connection between literature and reality.
