Tian Hsu

Undergraduate Student
Tian Hsu

Tian is a junior double majoring in Architecture and Mechanical Engineering. Her interests lie at the intersection of architecture, infrastructure, and urban planning.

As a student from London, UK, Tian uses her knowledge and understanding of European cities and cultures to reflect on how this has shaped metropolitan and vernacular landscapes in America. As a first year, Tian was awarded the Richter Summer Fellowship which she used to travel around France for a research project titled “From Nimes to Arc-Et-Senans, Paris, and New Haven: A Study of Classical Architecture and its Influence on Neoclassicism.” The outcome was a series of photographs, drawings, and paintings inspired by the intersection and contrast of Neoclassicism across France. Tian also spent the summer in Cité Universitaire, Paris taking a course titled “Paris Transformations: Landscapes, Gardens and Urban Parks.” The course studied the development of green spaces in Paris and the role of public policies.

Outside of class, Tian works as the Creative Visual Lead for the Yale Sustainable Food Program, the undergraduate representative for Yale's NOMAS Chapter (National Organization of Minority Architects), and unwinds through fun design work for DaY (Design at Yale).
