“An overview of the participation of women in the Olympic movement, the presentation will first briefly address the participation of women in athletics in ancient Greece and the early impediments and prejudices of the modern Games under the leadership of Baron Coubertin. The main focus of the presentation will address current challenges women athletes still face, which include sponsorship and pay inequalities, sexual objectification and harassment, cultural conventions and restrictions, and the ethical implications of regulation and participation of intersex and transgender athletes in the women’s categories.”
