PRFDHR Seminar: Navigating the Future: Harnessing Data-Driven Insights on Climate Mobility to Build a Common Agenda, David Lönnberg and Sarah Rosengaertner
Hybrid with in-person speaker
The seminar by David Lönnberg and Sarah Rosengaertner will unpack the efforts of the Global Centre for Climate Mobility (GCCM) to further climate mobility knowledge and solutions. They will underscore the importance of data, modeling, and stakeholder engagement to support proactive adaptation strategies for communities confronting the climate crisis. Lönnberg and Rosengaertner will present the approach of the GCCM – “Anticipate, Plan & Transform” - and discuss the findings and recommendations of its Africa Climate Mobility Initiative (africa.climatemobility.org), as well as ongoing work in Latin America and the Caribbean. By utilizing data-driven insights, GCCM helps governments, communities, and their partners anticipate climate mobility trends, identifying the areas and populations that are likely to be most affected by climate-driven migration and displacement. GCCM’s commitment extends to unifying policymakers and stakeholders at all levels around common agendas for action to address and harness climate mobility. Through this approach, it seeks to shift the focus of climate action and finance towards people-centered adaptation and climate-resilient development strategies that support people in their decision-making journeys around staying, moving, or relocating.
David Lönnberg serves as the Senior Advisor for Youth and Outreach at the Global Centre for Climate Mobility (GCCM) where he supports the Africa Climate Mobility Initiative (ACMI), the Greater Caribbean Climate Mobility Initiative (GCCMI), and the Rising Nations Initiative (RNI), as well as the development of the GCCM’s Solutions Lab. He previously worked at NGO ‘shift7’ and the UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service. He also served as an advisor to the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and a consultant to UNICEF’s Office of Innovation. David holds a Master’s in International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
