Letter from an Anti-slavery Advocate

Transcription: Mount Ellison 4th mo. 12th 1796

Respected Friend Willet Seaman,

I wrote thee two week ago to inform thee I had found the black man Nepton but he had passed through and was held in the hands of those that ware fond of law and I had no way to defend my self if they should prosecute Me for persuading the Servant (as they call him) away. Please do write me by this sloop what is necessary to be don he says his brother was up from York last fall to tell him he was free by the woman that holds him would not let him go. Also say he was first sold by (document damaged) White Jr. to a man in York named (document damaged) by him Sold to Esquire Duboise of this township who sold him to Nancy McClaughry where he now is.

I have wrote to William Cock in answer to this, and let him know that I thought a sute (sic) would be Brought against Nancy McClaughry.
