2025 Yale and Slavery Teachers Institute Cohort Member

Brook Taylor Stewart teaches 5th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies in West Haven, Connecticut. Her goal is to update history lessons to refocus on the experiences of Black and Indigenous People who were enslaved or forced into servitude–especially those with connections to Connecticut and New England–to highlight themes of resistance, resilience, and survival in the face of oppression.
