At Common Ground High School, we cultivate a supportive and inclusive environment where students critically engage with the world around them. As a member of the Senior Environmental Justice Capstone team, I focus on fostering civic engagement and student agency. My revision project aims to create a more inclusive, locally relevant curriculum that highlights the experiences of marginalized communities in New England, particularly Black, Brown, and Indigenous people. By revising the unit "Roots of Resistance: Examining Slavery’s Impact on Land, People, and Justice," I aim to connect historical legacies of slavery with contemporary social justice movements. This project empowers students by showcasing the resilience of marginalized communities, prompting reflection on their role in shaping a more just society. Through primary sources, local history, and changemaker profiles, students will better understand past struggles and their relevance to ongoing efforts for equity and justice today.
