2025 Yale & Slavery Teachers Institute Cohort Member

I am a fifth grade teacher at Governor William Pitkin School, a K through 5 Title I school in East Hartford Connecticut. We have an incredibly diverse group of kids from all over the world. They each have a unique story and carry their cultures as a badge of honor. It is a joy getting to educate them daily and witness their perspectives on the world. We are the melting pot of America. It is my goal to provide students with the opportunity to express who they are and understand our connected history. I want them to understand all perspectives of the truth and use that knowledge to their advantage in their own individualistic and unique ways. I do this by integrating art, music and literature into sometimes difficult to discuss topics and hope to further this venture at the Yale and Slavery Teachers Institute.
